A Question For You

I know I will probably get bombarded with replies to my big question, but that is ok.  I am looking for advice so I will ask, then forge ahead.  READY?

Not yet.  I want to give a bit of explanation and background info on why I am asking.  Hopefully that will allow people to send me a more accurate response.

Years ago I started looking into alternative medicine.  I did some research on homeopathic and naturopathic treatments. This was before holistic became a common place term.  Back when chiropractors were just being recognized as “real” care givers and massage therapy was still thought of as something that happened in a back room before a little you know what.  In the wonderfully puritanical commonwealth I reside in, homeopathic treatment was practically black magic.  If you wanted to learn any kind of alternative treatments relocation was a must.  Back then, that was not a possibility so I shelved the idea. Until now.

Now I find I would love to learn more.  I need to learn more.  I will not shelve the idea again.  My main interest is to not give up on allopathic treatments completely.  I do believe they save lives and without those treatments I would have lost many friends and family members.   I want to learn what I call…companion treatments.  Aromatherapy, music or sound therapy, energy healing (Reiki), meditation, and possibly work flower essence training in there.  I can’t and don’t want to diagnose.  I don’t want to take the place of an MD.  I want to work with medical professionals to relax the patient so the bodies and minds can heal.  Many doctors and many many more nurses see the effect of these types of therapies. They are climbing on board with them.

While trying to help care for my mother I realized if I could have reached into a bank of knowledge on what may have calmed her we would have all been better off.  It’s time to start that bank of knowledge so I can help others when they find themselves at wits end.  I especially would like to help dementia patients and their families.  A person’s mind is so very powerful when it comes to helping the body heal.  However; when it is the mind that is ill, it can not heal itself.  It is important to provide a calm safe environment for dementia patients.  That is what I am working towards. I want to teach people how to achieve tranquility when the world as they know it starts spinning out of control.

I am looking for names of legitimate online schools that teach about essential oils and aromatherapy.  I don’t want advertising sites that just want to sell me stuff.  I want to learn about the different oils, how to use them, how not to use them, the benefits, the dangers and everything there is to know.  Do you know which ones are good?  Which ones are scams? Which ones you would recommend?

At some point I would love to be able to attend seminars and workshops.  Learn hands on and meet other people, but right now I need to do this while catching up on bills, getting my life back on track, and yes finishing my first draft of short stories.  It has to be done online.

I feel a whole new life is waiting and I’m going to take part in it.  At 52 years old I am nervous but ready, with my husband, to take a few chances. If we fall flat on our faces we do, but I don’t want to spend my end years wondering what if…  I want to look back and say “Hell Yea We Did That”

So get me going.  Reply with some places to start my education.

I live in Massachusetts and always have. I sell healthy holistic pet food as an independant rep with Life's Abundance. That is done mostly from home on my computer. When I'm not working for myself with the pet food, I am sitting behind the wheel of a big yellow school bus.

  1. Hi there! My name is Cameron and I have a question on your blog and was hoping you could email me when you have a chance. Thanks! 🙂

I took an herbal remedy home course from Rosemary Gladstar of Sage Mountain — http://www.sagemountain.com. Vermont allows for herbal and natural healing and Sage Mountain is located in Vermont. They also have other on site classes. That is where I would start. There are accredited naturopathic medicine schools that have home study courses. I was involved years ago so I don’t remember exactly but just doing internet searches helped me discern accredited from scams.

Thank you Mary Ann. I had a list of accredited schools too, but that was long ago. I think Sage Mountain was one of the first that came up this time. I would also be able to do Vermont if there were classes or seminars over vacation. I will check this out further.
