Problem Words

Are there words out there that just irritate you?  Some you don’t like because they sound funny? Some are “like so totally annoying” you want to erase them from the English language? Some that you just can not spell even if your life depended on it?   I am throwing out a couple of thorns in my side.

1. Maintanance,  maintainance, maintanence, maintenance,

2. Naseous, nausous, nasous, nauseous

3. Excersice, excersize, exersize, exercsise, exercise

4. Definately, definetly, definetely, definitely

5. Unfortunatly, unfortunetly, unfortunetely, unfortunately

I know there are many more out there. Words that I have to look up every time I write, (I hate that red squiggly line)  What are some of your problem words?

About ramblinann

I live in Massachusetts and always have. My family continues to grow with the addition of many grandchildren, who steal my heart every time I see them. Recently I was able to check off an item on my bucket list and earn my Associate Degree in Complementary Healthcare, but usually, I can be found sitting behind the wheel of a big yellow school bus. I love to write, though there seems to be some missing connection between my thoughts and the ability of my fingers to put those thoughts on paper, or the screen in this case.

Mine is “RESPONSIBLITY” and I still do not know if that is right:>) (Seems like there needs to be an “a” in there somewhere) My motto is, “The older I get the thing miss the most is my mind!!!!” I blame it on defective wiring from the brain to the hand. There has to be a pinched wire in there somewhere, as it could not be us:>) Good post and I enjoyed it! God Bless, SR

That is funny. I also have problems with the ility endings, but mostly mine is not being able to get the letters in the correct order. I use the excuse that spell check has made me very lazy. Why remember when you can just push a button and have a choice at your fingertips. 🙂
      Have a great Friday

Judgement/judgment, everyday/every day, and prescription/perscription are a few that I have to look up (or rely on autocorrect to update for me). 🙂

And I ALWAYS misspell Recipe… I spell it RECPIE! WHY NOT!

  4. Realize/realise when I see this I start to feel my throat slowly closing up. Who comes up with these oddities and why?
