If you missed part 1 you can read it here. It’s about me messing up with my pet’s food.
As an independent rep with Life’s Abundance I have learned quite a lot of yucky things about the pet food industry. Things that make me very squeamish about other foods.
Because of this I have the fur kids dry and canned food delivered monthly. It comes from the plant, to our company owned warehouse, to my house. Unfortunately money has been extremely tight in December. I was running low and didn’t have the money to pay for the food when I needed to order it. (the holidays meant ordering ahead) I did the unthinkable. I ran out of food.
Because it can only be purchased from independent reps, like me. I had no choice but to substitute. Please don’t yell, please don’t send the doggie police. I know that is not good. I know it messes up their digestive systems. Trust me I know how bad it really is.
I guess I could have cooked them chicken, but that would have left us with little food in the freezer. I did the only thing I could do. I went to the store and bought another high-end food, I won’t give the name. I fed the substitute food, everyone ate. No one threw up; at first.
Poor Casey has problems with her digestive system to being with. IBS pretty much describes it. Switching her food sent her into a tail spin. No pun intended. She was poopin like crazy. Just looking at her you could tell she didn’t feel good. Her fur got all blotchy, and her skin started drying out. The food was not good for her.
The cats didn’t want to eat the substitute food. I measure out their food on a plate for each of them. Most mornings I would find half their supper still sitting there. Jordan and Ashes did not get sick. Moose started pukin all over the house. It was pretty bad.
As soon as my commission check came in I ordered a bag of Life’s Abundance for both dog and kitties. It was right before Christmas. I knew the warehouse would be closing for the holiday so I wanted the order in.
The Life’s Abundance came and I started adding it to the other food. By the time the other food was gone they were all starting to feel and look better. No poopin four and five times a day, and no pukin. I learned my lesson at their expense. I won’t run out again.
I am admitting to this because life happens to everyone. Even if you don’t feed Life’s Abundance you should not switch you pet’s food around like I did. It really messes with them. Transition them very slowly. Take 10 days to possibly a month. Slowly add pieces of the new food to the current food. Gradually increase the new to the old until all the old is gone.
I can’t stress enough to feed a quality food. By quality I mean no fillers, no chemicals, no corn, wheat, soy, or gluten. Dogs are omnivores so some veggies (no corn) are ok but meat (not meat by-product meal) should be the main ingredient. Cats are carnivores. They need a meat diet. Don’t fall for fancy marketing tactics. If you really want to know what is in your pet’s food and why, call the company. Ask questions.
I’m climbing out of the confessional and down off my soapbox now. I messed up and my pet’s felt like yuk because of it. Learn from my screw up. I know I have.
