Dog Experts: What Do They Know?

Most dog experts, I won’t tell you all, would say my beagle, Casey has no idea what I am saying when I talk to her.  She is reacting to my tone not my words.  Dogs don’t understand human languages.  WELL I don’t buy it. I think she understands every word I say and chooses most days to ignore or just plain disobey me.

What other explaination could there be?  C’mon really?  She understands perfectly, at 5 pm, When I ask “What do you want?”  Her reply is always ” ruh ruh”  Which everyone knows is supper in beagle.  That is a total no brainer.   If she didn’t understand would she answer the question?  Come on dog experts try to come up with some scientific equation for that.

Another perfect example is 4:30 a.m.   Every morning she comes out to the kitchen looking for breakfast.  She knows she just had her thyroid pill at 4:00 and has to wait an hour before eating. I have told her this many times.  Still she comes out at 4:30, sits, and gives me that look that says she is going to waste away if not served.  She stares a good 10, 15 minutes, until I get uncomfortable and tell her “You still have 15 minutes, go lay down.”   Are you telling me that when she gets up and goes into the other room to lay down she doesn’t understand?

  1. My cat will sit and stare at me until I feed him, and then ignore me until his next feeding hour 😀 xx

My dog definitely understands what we say to him. Whenever we ask him if he wants to go for a ride, his ears perk up and he gets SO excited. When we tell him to give us a kiss, he does it (and we NEVER trained him to know that word!). When I’m pulling in the driveway, Eric will ask him, “who’s that?” and he will run to the door to wait for me to come in. So I totally believe they understand actual words and not just tones. Dog experts…pshhh…dog owners are the REAL dog experts! 😉

It’s times like yesterday when I question my own sanity. I actually sat down and explained to the dog that Mumma only had 7 weeks left to work then she would be home with her all day and we needed to find something to do over summer vacation. Keep that up and I may be spending it in the hospital. :- )
