Have you ever had a party where almost no one showed up? It sounds lonely but let me assure you it was more comical than sad.
Yesterday we held our annual Eagle Fest. Many years ago it started as a mid-winter cookout. Friends get together, visit the Quabbin Reservoir to look for eagles, then return to our house to warm up and eat. The weather played havoc with our plans and the event got pushed off until yesterday, mid March.
This year everyone was scheduled to bring a dish. This way there would be plenty of different food and no one had to go broke in the process. It was a great idea, on paper anyway. “The best laid plans…”
You see, Saturday our steak tips weren’t feeling well and were up all night getting sick. They cancelled. The ribs don’t drive so they were riding with the steak tips. The chicken wings live downstairs from the steak tips so they decided not to come and we are not quite sure what happened to the hamburgers.
Luckily all this food was coming with humans so without it we also didn’t have the people. For guests we had some of the kids along with one long time friend/couple. They all brought something and we provided macaroni, hot dogs, and a package of hamburg. It was just the right amount of people and food and we all laughed about it.
Next year all the meat has to have a back up plan in case of emergency.
